Antman and The Wasp: Quantumania - Plot and Kang's motives explained

It’s been a while since Marvel released its teaser trailer for Antman & The Wasp: Quantumania. While I’m not very impressed about its lighter tone, I do have high expectations from Kang.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania | Official Trailer

Let’s get into the details without further ado.

Antman and The Wasp: Quantumania Plot

Basically this movie is going with the Wizard Of Oz theme and Kang is meant to be the wizard of Oz, the person who is stuck in the Quantum Realm. That’s also the reason why the trailer begins with “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” (song) by Elton John.

It’s very clear how this movie will begin. You’ll see Scott Lang living a normal life working at Baskin Robins. He has his podcast like we’ve seen in Ms. Marvel and he also makes a living out of selling his own merchandise.

But things go haywire when Cassie Lang creates a distress beacon that sends a signal to the Quantum Realm. Janet Van Dyne tells her to stop but it’s too late.

Kang has trapped all of them in the Quantum Realm. He has kept Cassie as his prisoner and wants Scott Lang to steal something for him in exchange for Cassie’s life.

The plot of Antman and The Wasp: Quantumania will revolve around Time. Scott Lang has lost 5 years as he was trapped in the Quantum Realm. During which his daughter Cassie grew up without him. Hence, Kang lures him with it and makes a deal that they both have to help each other.

Here comes the part which is not in the trailer (not even in the new one) from Daniel RPK.

Bill Murray’s character, Krylar is working alongside Kang. It’s possible that he was in love with Janet Van Dyne when she was in the Quantum Realm but when she was rescued his heart was broken. Now he’s is looking for revenge.

In the movie, there will be a flashback scene where you’ll see Janet talking with Kang and he tells Janet that she can use his chair to escape the Quantum Realm and return to her world. He even tells her he would create a timeline where it would be like she never left. In the comics Kang’s Time Chair was a device he created to travel through time and space and equipped with power defense weapons and a shield.

Janet refuses Kang’s offer, because she knows his true plan is to take over Earth, and shrinks his chair down so he can never use it again. In the present day, Kang has now kidnapped Cassie and tells Scott to get his chair back for him so he can leave the QR or else he will kill her.

MODOK is also aligned with Kang and is sent to assist Scott in getting the chair back.

In the latest trailer of Antman and The Wasp Quantumania you get to see a new detail. The deal that Kang makes with Scott is to get back the power source of his Time Chair in exchange for Cassie’s life.

Daniel RPK’s leaks are 80% accurate so expect some of this to be true as it was for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Who is the main villain of Antman and The Wasp Quantumania?

The main villain of this movie is Kang but as mentioned above we’ll also see Krylar and Modok as villains.

What is Kang trying to do?

Kang is trying to control his version of the Multiversal War from the Quantum Realm. He has his city called Chronopolis in the Quantum Realm. The only reason why he wants to use the Quantum Realm is because he wants to use Quantum Energy to power his technology. The movie will clear his intentions.

Now, Kang has fought with different versions of Avengers and hence he can’t remember if he has killed Scott Lang before. This is what Marvel has edited from this version of the trailer but they may include it in the next trailer.

Another important thing to note is that this version of Kang is slightly different. He may not be the main Kang but we will see him in the future. However, director Peyton Reed has teased that Kang’s role in Quantumania will affect

Where will Antman 3 take place?

Most of this movie seems to take place in the Quantum Realm and because this is a different Universe on its own, there are many different creatures living in it. You can also enter and exit at any point in time.

This movie might clear how the Quantum Realm exists in the MCU. The Quantum Realm is a whole different Universe on its own. So, it exists at a micro level in Earth-616. So, although it may connect Earth-616 at different points of time it may not connect with other universes.

Janet Van Dyne takes the lead here since she has spent a lot of time in the Quantum Realm. You’ll see her go on quest and ask different people about what’s going on.

This movie is supposed to take place after the events of Wakanda Forever.
