Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness – Everything you need to know

Marvel Studios is currently on fire because of the way they’re releasing TV spots and featurettes every single day for Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness. With less than a week for it’s release, this movie is surely causing a buzz on the internet.

In this post, I’ll post all the things which are most probably confirmed for this movie. I’ll definitely do a separate post for all the crazy rumours.

What is Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness about?

As the name itself suggests, this movie is Marvel Studios’ first movie where we will dive into the multiverse. Loki Series opened doors to the multiverse and Spiderman: No Way Home confirmed that the multiverse exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But Spiderman: No Way Home was about characters from other universes coming to the MCU, whereas, Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness is the other way around.

This movie is about characters from the MCU going to other universes and encountering other variants of themselves.

Who’ll be the hero and the villain?

It’s very hard to say who the hero will be because, there will be multiple heroes and villains. The main MCU Timeline Dr. Strange and Scarlett Witch will be the heroes. However, it’s not completely feasible at this point of time to consider Scarlett Witch as the hero. We’ll probably see her confused when she finds out that multiverse exists in the MCU.

America Chavez will be seen as a supporting character. She’ll be fighting along the heroes.

The variants of Dr. Strange and Wanda(Scarlett Witch) will be the villains.

Who is America Chavez?

We’ll get to see America Chavez being introduced in this movie. There’s no explanation for her powers as of now for the MCU. But she has the powers to physically travel through the multiverse. That’s exactly what the Screen X Featurette showed.

Yes, Doctor Strange can open doors to other dimensions but we haven’t seen him physically travelling through them.

How many variants will we see?

According to this poster below, we’ll probably see 3 variants of Doctor Strange and 2 variants of Wanda Maximoff.

Variants of Doctor Strange are: main MCU Doctor Strange, Supreme Doctor Strange and Evil Doctor Strange. Although, it’s possible that the Zombie Dr. Strange we see in the trailer here is the Supreme Dr. Strange itself.

For the Wanda Maximoff, there are only two variants; main MCU Wanda and evil Wanda. Evil Wanda or Scarlett Witch will start creating more problems in this movie. Despite, our main MCU Scarlett Witch knowing this, she won’t try to stop her because, she’s trying to find her children in the multiverse.

Who are THE ILLUMINATI?

We’ll definitely see The Illuminati in Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness. The Illuminati is a group of masterminds who keep an eye on the threats to Earth.

All the members are from different timelines. We’ll get to see 7 members in The Illuminati. Out of the 7, the confirmed members are: Mordo, Monica Rambeau, Captain Carter & Charles Xavier. It’ll be interesting to see how each of these character introduces themselves.

Charles Xavier played by Patrick Stewart is from an entirely different universe. He’s not the same Charles that we saw in the X-Men series.

Now, for the 2 of the remaining 3 members, there’s a leaked footage which reveals Mr. Fantastic and Black Bolt. But anything can’t be said for sure until we actually see the movie.

The Plot

The only thing I can say about the plot is that the movie will start with Dr. Strange getting nightmares. This is what we’ve seen in the trailer as well. These nightmares enable him to seek out more about the multiverse.

Hence, he goes to see Wanda about how much she know about the multiverse. It’s not sure what she knows. But Strange isn’t able to get much help from Wanda. Hence, he somehow finds America Chavez who gives him a demo of her knowledge.

Now, what happens after this is just my assumption from what I can gather through the various TV spots and featurettes.

As she does this, Wanda too comes to know about this. Or, it’s possible that Wanda secretly tries finding about the multiverse and stumbles upon her variant. She starts to find her children when Strange and Chavez stop her.

She brings this huge cloud over Kamar-Taj.

That’s when Wanda’s variant gets unleashed and wreaks chaos throughout the multiverse.

The Book of Vishanti

While Supreme Strange and Chavez are trying to outrun variant Wanda, they’ll try to seek help from THE BOOK OF VISHANTI. Vishanti comprises of 3 Gods, Agamotto, Oshthur & Hoggoth.

It seems that Strange always knew about this book but he chose to keep it hidden

As Wanda is using Chaos Magic from the Darkhold, Strange is forced to use The Book of Vishanti which has the counter spell for every Dark Magic. I think this book will also be very useful for Strange in Phase 4.

THE PLOT

After this fight, Strange is taken in front of The Illuminati. Somehow, Wanda’s variant also reaches this place. Or it’s possible that Wanda too is taken along with Dr. Strange. When the members of The Illuminati try to stop her, she starts fighting against them.

Many scenes from the movie are scattered in various TV spots, Featurettes and in the trailer and hence it’s quite hard to tell the rest of the plot.

Marvel has also given different colors to variants of Doctor Strange so that it’s easier to differentiate between them.

Downside

The biggest downside of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is it’s runtime. This movie is supposed to be a horror movie and as it’s going to explore the multiverse, there are going to be 10 cameos.

There are also going to be a lot of deaths. But overall, this movie has to develop not only Doctor Strange and Wanda but also set grounds for Avenger Level threats. That’s because, there’s not going to be a third Doctor Strange movie for sometime after this.

Hence, there’s a lot resting on this movie as well. The runtime of mere 2 hours doesn’t justify everything that this movie is supposed to do. So, there are chances that this movie doesn’t perform well in some departments.

But yes, I’m sure that for 2 hours, there will be madness. This movie is going to be super crazy. I’ll be doing separate posts for this movie as well. Let me know your thoughts about this movie in the comment section.
