John Wick: Chapter 4 is here after nearly four years of waiting. Keanu Reeves is back in action as the titular character, and he promises that this installment will be the most intense yet.
If you have noticed, in all the previous movies, Wick has fewer dialogues and more action scenes. This is what makes this franchise different from others.
Keanu Reeves on John Wick: Chapter 4
In IGN Fan Fest, Reeves said:
There’s all of that John Wick swag — cars, weapons, jiujitsu. But with Chapter 4, we took it to another level. It’s been about 12 weeks of training. You see the effort and the commitment from the [stunt] team.
In another interview with Total Film, he added:
We took the car-driving to the next level, which I really enjoy. There’s 180s, forward-into-reverse 180s, reverse-into-forward 270s, drifting. It was really fun to get a chance to learn those skills, and to play.
Reeves, who is known for his commitment to his roles, underwent 12 weeks of intense training to prepare for this physically demanding role. He even shared that this was the “hardest physical role” of his career so far. But all that hard work has paid off, as critics who have seen initial screenings of the film have praised its action choreography and pacing.
Sadly, the cast and crew received heartbreaking news when they learned that Lance Reddick had passed away suddenly at the age of 60. Reeves and director Chad Stahelski dedicated the film to Reddick’s memory, calling him a “consummate professional and a joy to work with.”
What is the plot of John Wick Chapter 4?
Chapter 4 is about John Wick overcoming all the challenges of The High Table to secure his freedom.
John Wick 4 is 2nd on my list of 2023 movies.
As you can see, the trailer opens with a conversation between John Wick and his old friend, Caine. Caine warns Wick that he will die if he challenges The High Table. However, Wick responds with a defiant “maybe not.”
The trailer then introduces the new villain of the film, the Marquis de Garmont. The Marquis plans to completely reboot the High Table’s pecking order. He declares that a new day is dawning with new ideas, rules, and management. This sets the stage for an intense conflict between Wick and the Marquis.
The New York Continental’s manager, Winston, then tells Wick that he must challenge the Marquis to single combat. Wick initially protests, stating that he does not sit at The Table. However, Winston reminds him that his family does, setting the stage for a personal and emotional battle.
Chapter 4 introduces a new character Katia. She is Wick’s “former family,” similar to a stepsister. It remains to be seen what role Katia will play in the film and how she will impact the story.
The trailer closes with the Marquis making a big promise to Wick. If he wins the battle against the Marquis, The Table will honor its word, and Wick will have his freedom. This adds an extra layer of tension to the already intense conflict between the two.
Overall, John Wick: Chapter 4 promises an action-packed and emotionally charged story with high stakes for all involved.
Who is in the cast for this movie?
John Wick: Chapter 4 boasts an impressive cast, featuring a mix of returning fan favorites and new faces. Leading the way is Keanu Reeves, who reprises his role as the lead, John Wick. Laurence Fishburne returns as the Bowery King, who plays a significant role in helping Wick gain his freedom.
Ian McShane also reprises his role as Winston, the manager of the New York Continental. Late Lance Reddick’s character, Charon, will be missed. He died suddenly just a week before the premiere of the film.
New additions to the cast include Bill Skarsgård, who plays the Marquis de Gramon. He is responsible for cleaning up the messes from the first three movies. Donnie Yen, one of the world’s top martial arts choreographers, plays Wick’s longtime friend, Caine, while Hiroyuki Sanada portrays Shimazu.
Natalia Tena, best known for her role in the Harry Potter franchise, plays Wick’s familial connection, Katia. And rising star Shamier Anderson plays the Tracker.
Is John Wick: Chapter 4 the last movie of this franchise?
The CEO of Lionsgate John Feltheimer says that Chapter 4 isn’t the end. Although he says that the company has plans for a fifth installment, Reeves said that that isn’t entirely guaranteed.
Reeves added that production of all the 4 movies have been possible only because the fans wanted more of Wick. Hence, the John Wick team is waiting for a response from the audience. If the response is positive, then Chapter 5 will move into the production phase.
